9 Christmas Movies to Watch during December

Winter is the most wonderful time of the year!
When everything enfolds into frost and snow,
and the urge to watch a Christmas film,
finally, to that you won’t say “no.”

If you too are baffled about –
What to watch in this cold weather?
Just sigh and relax, and let’s walk through,
these films of fantasy and cheer altogether!

1. Krampus

A still from 2015 Christmas-horror film - Krampus

Snowed In – Storm Struck – Terrified. A lot of us, especially people like me want something spicy on top of the sweetness in the vibey films. The 2015 movie, Krampus is such a specimen of this genre. Horror but not too scary, violent but no gory, family-thing but with bitter truth of reality – all relatives are not endeared – yet, there’s love for the loved-ones and fear of losing them… This is what the film depicts – cherish what you have. Else, you’re in the naughty list and he’s coming for you – Krampus!

2. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

4 Stills from the film - The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

The dreamy world of Narnia where the winters remained for a century. The great novel series by C.S. Lewis was adapted into a film franchise, and this one was the best of them. You must’ve heard or read the name Narnia atleast once, somewhere, and most likely seen the film as well. But if not, this is the film you’re watching this December!

3. Klaus

2 Stills from the film - Klaus

All those elements and traditions of Christmas – those milk and cookies, the pebbles in the stockings of the naughty listed, the mischief of elf, the flying reindeer with Santa’s sledge, and most importantly, the letters – they all have an origin. This film has a peculiarly different plot than any other Christmas tale.

4. Arthur Christmas

5 stills from the film, Arthur Christmas, are shown as framed photos, and one of them is in the middle of the other 4 as a sticker.

Don’t lose the cheer! Witness the unmatched endeavor of Arthur and Bryony, the elf that they showed to save a little girl’s Christmas. The film depicts acts of goodwill throughout if noticed.

5. Tom & Jerry: A Nutcracker Tale

“As if, we haven’t seen it,” you might say. This animated film is almost everyone’s childhood memory. Made for kids particularly, this film turns out to be a good family-winter-time too.

6. Robin Robin

4 stills from the film - Robin Robin

You’ll probably be the first one to fly in your family! You don’t always need to fit in. You are not just different, you’re unique. If your ways are not like those of others, they probably were never meant to be. Embrace and identify yourself – who are you?

Robin Robin is a 32 min long, musical film that inspires in a mesmerizing way.

7. The Grinch

2 stills from the animated film - The Grinch

The heavy name of the town, Whoville itself cheers me up, reminding of the mini-fantasy-world of this movie. The hallmark of this film is the tender hearts of the characters, the exact thing that the protagonist – Mr. Grinch – lacked. The music, the theme, everything is so sweet that this 2018 movie is worth a watch.

8. Harry Potter

4 stills from the Harry Potter film series.

Turns out that Rowling is a Christmas fan as well. Her movies showcase those festive scenes, not just of Christmas, but of Halloween too (of course, when the film displayed Dark Arts). Apart from the few holiday scenes, the entire film series itself is a must watch.

9. Little Women

9 stills from the film, Little Woman.
In the frames are,
Saoirse Ronan,
Florence Pugh,
Emma Watson,
Eliza Scanlen,
Timothée Chalamet and
Laura Dern

Our pains and struggles seem insignificant when we realize what others are going through. Really, so much in just one film and it is inspired by true events!

The film’s casting, mise-en-scène and the 80s/90s vibe are what I loved initially, but the story and the depiction were what kept me hooked. Sacrifices, responsibilities towards family – that’s what it teaches us.

Although not absolutely Christmassy, but few scenes are lovely. And the point is, such films which help us cope in life are essential.

Bonus Miniseries

10. Hawkeye

Hawkeye

If you’re a Marvelite, you must’ve seen this already. But if not, then why not yet!? Merely six episodes to binge and add those cool stills to Instagram story. But more than the Insta story is the story of this show itself and character development of Kate Bishop.

Watch this show before 25th for the perfect timing and feel…

Note: There are a lot of prequels to this; a lot many films to finally watch before immersing into this touching, Christmassy, action miniseries.
