I used to wonder if someone brought a jalebi for me on Christmas, I’ll extract their brain out of their skull. That distorted orange spiral thing would just ruin the Christmas vibe. It tastes good but doesn’t align with the holiday season at all! But one day I read on the internet that in Eastern India, Gulab Jamuns are a prominent advent dessert. And then I wondered, those rich brown color, sweet round balls indeed look like a western Christmas food item. In fact, this warm winter treat is really comforting on cold winter nights.
The thing is not just a coincidence that it resembles. When Britain colonized India, they setup the East India Company in Kolkata (Calcutta that time).
