Sun slowly went down the horizon, leaving aesthetic hues in the sky. Birds had chirped enough for the day and probably had to leave for their nests. Far, afloat in the blue, they chased one another in a circular motion, creating a tornado like movement. Harsh and Teena sat on the park wall in the town-heart, watching this pleasant view.
“I had to tell you something since long,” said Harsh, after silently admiring the scenery for rather long.
“What?” asked Teena.
“I want to tell it to you, but don’t give a weird reaction,” spoke Harsh.
“I won’t,” Teena said.
“Well, Aisha is one of your good friends, right?” he asked.
“You’re talking about, Aisha, from our school?”
“The one whom you were talking to, here, yesterday,” Harsh answered.
“Yeah, she is,” Teena answered too.
Harsh broke the eye contact and looked in front again. He kept silence. He was thinking over the matter perhaps.
“Say something,” the girl said with politeness.
Harsh looked at her again, and revealed what he wanted, finally- “I think I like Aisha.”
What Harsh was expecting was totally unobvious to happen – a ‘weird look’ from her friend. Besides, he had guessed about her of passing a smile upon knowing this. But she didn’t give a reaction at all. With her gaze still adjusted forth, she was completely unaware of what he spoke after that. She had certainly gone absent-minded. At last, Harsh came to the main point-
“Hey, won’t you introduce me to her?. . . I was thinking if you could help me in getting little closer to her as well.”
“No, I can’t!”, Teena replied all of a sudden. Though her tone was a little arrogant, it was completely unintentional.
Harsh was surprised.
What did I say! she thought regretfully, and then slowly shifted her look towards him hesitatingly.
“Well, but why won’t you do that? Aren’t we friends?” Harsh asked.
“We are,” Teena replied.
“Then what’s the problem in that?”
The girl was in pain, and sitting next to the one who wasn’t understanding.
“Why do you think someone won’t like her friend to be in a relationship?” she asked acquiring enough guts, dissimulating her emotions.
Harsh ponder over it before speaking anything.
“Let me guess. . . Because that person doesn’t want her friend to be distracted?” he asked.
Teena kept silent.
“They don’t their friend to get with the wrong person and eventually face a heart break?”
“NO!!” she replied.
The boy looked away again. For one more time he thought over it, although he was way baffled and unsettled.
“I guess,” he added as then he had the hint, “they don’t want that thing to happen, maybe because they’re feeling jealous.”
Teena looked into his eyes and very slightly nodded. Her face was expressing what was in her mind.
The boy had now perhaps realized what was the matter. He was rather astonished. After taking a long pause, he asked plainly – “You like me?”
“. . . yes,” Teena admitted, disregarding the consequences if there could be any.
The situation at that moment had changed completely; from watching the sunset to having a conversation that took this turn. This wasn’t expected at all. By then, the sky had dusked. No bird could be seen out there, not even many people. Harsh and Teena sat close enough. After staring at each other for a while with surprise, they became aware of how their knees were in contact. As they looked below, the girl immediately took her leg away, and simultaneously seized the look. But the boy didn’t.
“Teena,” he spoke softly, and she slowly turned her face towards him. He took her opposite arm from right below her shoulder. Doing this, he pulled her towards himself with tenderness, so that her head was then leaning against his chest. They, then turned so still like a statue. They could sense own breaths. The guy’s heart beat against her ear. And the closeness of their bond went to the next level as he affectionately gave her a kiss on her head. She finally stopped suppressing her feelings and simply let her tears push themselves out of her eyes. Yet, her face still seemed so serious and hard to understand. Although, she expressed her affection perfectly. She took her arms around him eventually.
